Introduction to Dublin


Dublin is Ireland's capital city. It lies on the East Coast of Ireland and is the political, cultural and business center of Ireland. The city has a population of over 1.5 million people and is also one of Europe's youngest demographic cities. It is one of Europe's finest capital cities. The city is built on the River Liffey, which divides the city into the North and Southside. In addition to its splendid public buildings, Dublin is particularly rich in domestic architecture of the 18th century. Fine Georgian mansions, many of them with historical association, lend sober beauty to the city's wide streets and spacious squares.

The city has something for all tastes and ages. Dublin has become famous for many things not least its rich history, famous playwrites including Joyce and Behan, or its modern cosmopolitian nature. Dublin hospitality, in its pubs and restaurants is well renowned. The city is a mecca for tourists from all over the world and has a huge array of things to do and places to visit. There is a wealth of interest for the visitor to Dublin in its architecture, fashionable shopping centres, and its wide range of quality entertainment venues.

The cultural quartet in Dublin called Temple Bar has become a haven for aspiring musicians and artists and is the bohemian area of the city. It has numerous pubs and restaurants that cater for every taste and budget. Dublin is of course famous for Guniness, which is brewed at St Games Gate close to the city center. A visit to the Guniness Hopstore visitor center is highly recommended. Also be sure to take a guided open top bus tour of Dublin or even the literary pub crawl. Visit one of Europe's oldest universities at Trinity College or relax in Europes largest park at The Phoenix park. Take in a game of Hurling or Gaelic football at Croke Park and go home telling tales of this wonderful city
